I created a shell file play.sh which reads:
#!/bin/sh mplayer -shuffle /media/card/music/katie_melua/*
when I run this shell file it starts playing music until it crashes the neo freerunner.

Even more so, is this FSO specific? Did you try the same with other distributions? Might as well be a kernel problem.

The crash is reproducible, although I haven't noticed, whether it is file-dependant. I haven't tried it with other distributions yet, but I'm going to.
The crash was such, that music stopped playing and the freerunner didn't react to anything. Or was it something else you meant with: "how exactly is the FR 'crashed'"?

Pleaes report this upstream (mplayer) or at least in the OpenEmbedded? repository. This bugtracker should only contain FSO-middleware-specific bugs.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea how to fix this. How exactly is the FR "crashed", is this reproducible?
